Instead, artists depend on observation, analysis, and composition to compare shapes, sizes, tonal gradations, and colours. Essentially, they evaluate both the qualitative and quantitative aspects of their subject.

NATURE OF FREEHAND DRAWING

In freehand drawing, each work evolves like a natural organism, interacting with every shape, tone, and colour. This concept aligns with “the part in the whole.” For example, the human body develops its head, arms, legs, and internal organs simultaneously rather than sequentially. Similarly, freehand drawing progresses holistically. Additionally, as the students progress with their drawing or painting, they will gradually develop an individual expression. This is an extension as well as an integral part of their personality. The tutor’s part is to respect it! At the same time, tailored exercises should be added to enrich the student’s innate approach to personal expression.
